Overzicht

We would like to bring together a number of scientists specialized in low-energy fundamental interactions physics for a two-days brainstorming workshop investigating the opportunities for this field at the ISOL@MYRRHA facility.

A previous workshop was organized at the SCK•CEN (April 2008), bringing together physicists from different research fields to discuss the physics opportunities of the ISOL@MYRRHA facility. Thereafter the scientific as well as the technical aspects of the project were further investigated and the feasibility of a number of possible experiments was looked into. This resulted in the report "ISOL@MYRRHA, an On-Line Isotope Separator coupled to the MYRHHA proton accelerator".

We are now organizing a series of topical workshops gathering experts from the different disciplines ISOL@MYRRHA is aiming at. The first workshop, treating fundamental interactions, will be on October 3-5, 2011 at the SCK•CEN in Mol. The aim is fourfold:

  • investigate the physics case in more detail, thereby identifying unique and world-leading scientific opportunities for the RIB program at ISOL@MYRRHA,
  • collect information on the instrumentation required for experiments at ISOL@MYRRHA,
  • gather the necessary input for the design study (i.e. aspects influencing the lay-out of the experimental hall, required RIBs, etc.)
  • set up a Users Group of researchers interested in potentially using the facility.

The workshop is organized in the framework of the Interuniversity Attraction Poles (IAP) Programme of the Belgian Science Policy Office (P6/23). It was co-funded by FWO, through the WOG project “Exotische kernen als laboratorium voor de fundamentele interacties” 2011.
