Overzicht

This workshop belongs to a series of meetings organized in a frame of Trilateral Euregio Cluster, which is fusion research cooperation of The Netherlands, Belgium and the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Plasma-wall interaction and development of plasma-facing materials is one of the major activities scoped by TEC.

Plasma facing materials will experience particularly hostile conditions, such as high particle and neutron flux, heat loads, thermal stresses, etc. Plasma facing materials must have and maintain high thermal conductivity, sufficient cohesive energy for low erosion by particle bombardment and sufficient fracture toughness to resist cracking. Synergy between the effects of the plasma, heat loads and particle flux presents particular challenges for experimental characterization and calls for further development of modeling tools.

This meeting is dedicated to the experimental research in plasma facing materials and development of advanced modeling tools to describe the response of these materials in fusion conditions, otherwise complex to reproduce by experiments. Focus is made on R&D in baseline and advanced tungsten-based grades: fabrication and testing, high temperature testing, neutron irradiation effects, modification of microstructure and mechanical properties, engineering and fundamental modelling of radiation effects and retention processes.

This project has received funding from EUROfusion through FuseNet - under the EU grant agreement no. 633053
