Transform your decommissioning projects with unparalleled efficiency and accuracy.

With the ever-growing need to minimize radioactive waste and promote sustainable practices in the nuclear industry, the collaboration between SCK CEN (the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre) and Ludlum GmbH aims to significantly reduce the volume of radioactive materials.

Central to sustainable waste management lies the ability to maximize the reuse and recycling of materials exiting a nuclear zone. For those dealing with large volumes of materials, such as in the decommissioning of nuclear facilities, efficient and reliable characterization is crucial. This is where E.R.N.I.E. and B.E.R.T. come into play.

ANUBIS & the relaunch plan for Belgium and Europe

E.R.N.I.E. and B.E.R.T. are integral parts of the ANUBIS project, both receiving funding from the EU.

In 2021, the European Union awarded SCK CEN funding for the ANUBIS project, which stands for "Advancing Nuclear dismantling in Belgium through Improving Sustainability". The main goal of the project is to develop technologies and competencies in order to maximise the reuse of materials released during nuclear decommissioning. This includes the construction of a new research, development and demonstration facility with associated facilities for supporting innovation in dismantling projects in Belgium.

The project not only fits in with the Belgian-European plan for the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, but it also connects seamlessly with the sustainable dismantling of the nuclear power plants at Doel and Tihange.
