At the heart of society

SCK CEN produces radioisotopes and actively contributes to research into radioligand therapy. As a result, we work at the heart of society. It goes without saying that SCK CEN is in continual open dialogue with patients, doctors and policymakers, because dialogue makes the research more relevant for society.

Patients

We believe it is important to gain valuable insights from personal experiences so that our research truly meets the needs of patients. Through our close relationships with patient organisations, we learn how individuals experience and understand radioligand therapy.     We actively listen to the needs, questions and concerns of patients, as this allows us to make cancer treatments more relevant and effective.

Doctors

We attach a lot of importance to clinical practice and therefore maintain close relationships with doctors and other opinion leaders in the medical world. This approach means that we can advise on the development of an overarching framework for integrating radioligand therapy into medical care.

Policy makers

We actively engage in dialogue with political decision-makers to discuss the core principles of radioligand therapy and its growing societal impact. Ensuring a reliable supply chain and working towards increasingly successful treatment options requires strong political support. This includes not only legal and financial support, but also a clear role for radioligand therapy within the healthcare system – alongside treatments such as chemotherapy.

'RLT4Belgium'

Belgian action plan aims to help more patients by continuing to play a pioneering role

Our country has a unique ecosystem in the fight against cancer, thanks to radioligand therapy. Not only is Belgium home to many nuclear experts, research facilities and reactors, but also leading pharmaceutical companies, production facilities, specialised doctors and hospitals. In total, Belgian nuclear medicine boasts more than 5,000 dedicated professionals.

As a result, our country has unique assets. SCK CEN has already taken concrete steps to increase the production capacity of radioisotopes and stimulate preclinical research with the construction of the CRF.

It should come as no surprise that we are closely involved in the Belgian action plan 'RLT4Belgium'. The aim of this plan is to embed radioligand therapy in our healthcare system and consolidate Belgium's pioneering role, so that more patients can benefit from this treatment.
