LEANDREA in a nutshell
Europe needs reliable, low-carbon energy sources. That is why SCK CEN – at the request of the Belgian government – is developing a demonstration model of a lead-cooled fast SMR: the LEANDREA Technology Demonstrator.
LEANDREA will demonstrate lead-cooled fast reactor technology and will also serve as an irradiation facility for materials and fuels for fast reactors. In addition, the facility will be used for research into applications that go beyond electricity generation alone.
SCK CEN aims to start construction in 2030.
