Sujets
- Communication as a safety factor
- The Chernobyl disaster has shown how crucial communication is in a nuclear safety culture. A strict hierarchical structure prevented the expression of concern, which contributed to the disaster. Since then, organizations like WANO and INPO have promoted 360-degree communication that obliges all employees to voice security concerns. These principles aim to identify risks at an early stage and prevent accidents by creating an open and respectful communication culture.WANO principles
- Communication is mandatory but how best?
- Communication in occupational safety is essential for all employees. Unsafe behaviors must be addressed despite discomfort, as only consistent feedback can prevent accidents and injuries. Since hazards often arise unexpectedly, active safety communication is always crucial everywhere and. Constructive safety dialogues form the foundation of an effective safety culture.
- My contribution to safety communication
- The safety dialogue is a key tool in nuclear safety culture, used to prevent risks and address acute situations. It encourages open discussions on safety through four guiding questions: assessing the work situation, recognizing hazards, evaluating behavior, and suggesting improvements. Humor, empathy, and adaptability help overcome resistance, especially when engaging leaders or experienced colleagues. By fostering trust and highlighting the importance of health and safety, safety dialogues reduce risks and support a strong safety culture.
