ANALYSIS AND MODELING OF TABLE TOP EXPERIMENTAL CAMPAIGNS BY CATHARE CODE

Introduction

Table Top is a 2.0 kW water/steam open loop facility under operation at SCK CEN. The main goal of the loop is to test a single tube of the MYRRHA Primary Heat EXchanger (scaled down in length). A series of tests have been performed during the years 2022/2023 to investigate the range of operation of the facility, to refine the procedures to operate it and to assess the PHX performances. These tests deal with:

  • Operation at a saturation pressure in the range [8-16] bara
  • Operation at different power levels in the range [1.0-2.0] kW
  • Development of a procedure to drain the facility by boiling at atmospheric pressure (dryout)
  • PHX performance tests at 16 bara with two different fillers

Objectives

This internship deals with post-test analysis of these tests by means of TH system code based on an existing and qualified model of the plant. The candidate will follow this program.

  1. Training on the use of TH system code (i.e. CATHARE)
  2. Post processing of the experimental tests (minimum 2 tests)
  3. Write a final summary report

The duration of theinternship is 12 weeks and the preferred period is starting from May 2024. The guidance will be done online as the student will be based in Italy.
