The Belgian State, represented by Minister for Energy Tinne Van der Straeten, and SCK CEN, represented by Derrick-Philippe Gosselin (Chairman) and Peter Baeten (Director-General), signed a management agreement on Thursday 18 April. At the same time, the National Institute for Radioelements (IRE) also signed its management agreement.

In addition to following a recommendation from the Court of Audit, the aim of these management agreements is to formalise the mutual commitment between the Belgian State and the federal agencies in the nuclear sector, while preserving their autonomy in terms of mission, operation and management, in accordance with the law. They represent an essential commitment to meeting medium and long-term societal and strategic challenges, providing technical expertise and a strategic approach.

With the new strategic plan 'Exploring 2040', we have strengthened our social ambitions. We remain focused on three areas: innovative nuclear systems (lead-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) and MYRRHA), nuclear waste management and dismantling, and the resolute fight against cancer. We are delighted with this agreement: it formally emphasises our belief in the 'Exploring 2040' plan and shows our determination to move forward, with partners such as the IRE.
Peter Baeten, Director General of SCK CEN
