Employees, students, trainees, independent physicians... every occupationally exposed employee must wear a dosimeter at chest height. With the accredited Instadose dosimeters, SCK CEN ensures an accurate measurement of the effective dose for the whole body.

Technical specifications

The Instadose dosimeter is available in two versions: Instadose+ and Instadose2. Instadose+ only measures Hp(10) and is therefore somewhat cheaper than Instadose2, which monitors both Hp(10) and Hp(0.07).

The Instadose dosimeters are based on the Direct Ion Storage (DIS) principle, with incident ionising radiation generating electrical charges in a miniature ionisation chamber. These charges are subsequently stored in a semiconductor memory cell. The amount of charge in the memory cell is a measure of the cumulative radiation dose. When reading the dosimeter, the amount of charge is recorded in a non-destructive way through a voltage measurement. As such, the charge accumulates and is not lost. The dose over a given period of time is then calculated by establishing the difference between both correct readings.
