MYRRHA will be the world’s first sub-critical, particle accelerator -driven reactor, cooled by a lead-bismuth eutectic. Our main mission is to build MYRRHA and use it as a research reactor. But there’s still a lot of work to be done, such as constructing MINERVA – the project’s first phase that consists of a particle accelerator and a proton target facility (PTF). The commissioning of this accelerator facility is scheduled for 2026. Along with large teams of ambitious engineers and researchers, SCK CEN aims to develop new medical radioisotopes and solve the nuclear waste issue. To help us achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for a project engineer that will take a leading role in the development of critical systems for the beam dump of the Full Power Facility (FPF). The successful applicant will join the MINERVA Target Facilities expert group, with the following responsibilities:

  • outlining conceptual design of various  systems within FPF
  • coordinating basic and detailed design, in collaboration with design engineers and draughtsmen
  • ensuring that a high-quality design documentation package is produced in a timely manner
  • coordinating technical aspects of procurement, manufacturing and installation of the abovementioned systems
  • supervising manufacturing and installation activities
  • ensuring that all design and implementation steps comply with the technical requirements of the systems and with the project’s guidelines and constraints
  • providing the necessary input for the licensing of the facility and for the design of ancillary systems

To join this frontier, you'll need

  • Master of Science degree in (electro)mechanical engineering or a similar degree
  • at least 5 years of leading design, construction and operation of complex engineering systems
  • experience with design of nuclear systems is an advantage
  • experience in producing P&IDs and technical drawings
  • experience with 3D modelling
  • experience with computer assisted analyses, like FEM and CFD, is an advantage
  • good communication and coordination skills
  • ability to produce technical specifications and reports in English
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills and good oral and written reporting skills
  • willing to learn
  • able to work independently and lead the development of a complex system
  • pragmatic, result-driven and project-oriented
