Keep our infrastructure in shape!

SCK CEN contributes as a research institute to a world in which this and future generations can live healthily and safely. For this, we have unique know-how and specialist infrastructure at our disposal. As a hot lab project engineer, you and your team are responsible within the lab management department for the technical management, maintenance, automation and renewal of our (nuclear) research infrastructure, such as labs, glove boxes, hot cells.... You will also play an important role in the construction of our new hot labs and the implementation of new devices.
Furthermore, you will

  • manage a team of 3 people, responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the existing installations/equipment
  • coordinate the cooperation between the different departments whenever new equipment is installed (from high-tech measuring instruments to HVAC installations)
  • develop test, maintenance and operating programmes for these installations/equipment and set up test programmes/acceptance tests for existing and new installations
  • be responsible for PLC integration in hot labs and implement a standard data acquisition system, so that we can monitor important parameters at any time
  • take part in the duty service shifts for the LHMA building (laboratory for high- and medium-level activity) in view of the subsequent management of the duty service file

To join this frontier, you'll need

  • a Master's degree in industrial sciences, electromechanical engineering, automation or equivalent
  • experience with PLC programming, reading technical drawings and diagrams (electrical, pneumatic and mechanical)
  • a structured way of working in order to set up and develop new projects. For this, you like to roll up your sleeves yourself.
  • experience in drawing up and carrying out maintenance and test programmes
  • good communication and leadership skills to bring projects to a successful conclusion together with other groups. You are sufficiently assertive to look after and promote Hot Lab projects within the organisation
  • good reporting skills, both in writing and verbally, with a good command of Dutch/French and English
  • knowledge of hot cells and glove boxes is a plus, but not necessary
  • knowledge of Prince2 and SAP is a plus
