Will you help taking care of our research infrastructure?

SCK CEN contributes as a research institute to a world in which this and future generations can live healthily and safely. For this, we have unique know-how and specialist infrastructure at our disposal. As a junior hot lab project engineer, you and your team are responsible within the lab management department for the technical management, maintenance, automation and renewal of our (nuclear) research infrastructure, such as labs, glove boxes, hot cells.... After an extensive training, you will carry out more tasks on your own such as:

  • coordinating the cooperation between the different departments whenever new equipment is installed (from high-tech measuring instruments to HVAC installations)
  • developing test, maintenance and operating programmes for these installations/equipment and setting up test programmes/acceptance tests for existing and new installations
  • carrying out PLC integration in hot labs and implementing a standard data acquisition system, so that we can monitor important parameters at any time
  • taking part in the duty service shifts for the LHMA building (laboratory for high- and medium-level activity) in view of the subsequent management of the duty service file

To join this frontier, you'll need

  • a Master's degree in industrial sciences, electromechanical engineering, automation or equivalent
  • academic knowledge in PLC programming, reading technical drawings and diagrams (electrical, pneumatic and mechanical)
  • knowledge of E-plan is an asset
  • a structured way of working in order to set up and develop new projects. For this, you like to roll up your sleeves yourself
  • good communication skills to bring projects to a successful conclusion together with other groups
  • good reporting skills, both in writing and verbally, with a good command of Dutch or French and English
  • interested in developing project management skills
  • interested in nuclear technology and ready to carry out tasks in and around hot cells
