The main activity of the Design and Engineering Office expert group (DEO) is to translate ideas and concepts, in close collaboration with the internal client, into a technically feasible design and, for this purpose, to generate the necessary technical drawings and construction plans. These designs are mainly situated in the disciplines mechanics, experiment construction, process control and technical infrastructure.
Internal clients
The DEO expert group supports the expert groups of the ANS institute, as well as the other institutes of SCK•CEN. The profile of the internal client varies from the scientific collaborator who is not very familiarised with the construction world to the engineer or technician who offers us well thought-out, rational and almost completely developed concepts as basis.
In the design phase of a project, during regular technical meetings, different alternatives and ways of thinking are translated into a technically feasible design that, first of all, has to meet the required functionality, quality and safety criteria and for which economic aspects are optimally taken into account, so as to be able to carry out the realisation at acceptable costs.
Expertise
The designers permanently get extra training in new techniques and realisation methods. They use renowned construction codes and realisation standards such as ASME, EN and PED.
The DEO expert group has developed a relevant expertise in the design of machines, reactor experiments, hot cell infrastructure and general technical installations.
