SCK•CEN is developing the multi-purpose irradiation facility MYRRHA, a flexible fast spectrum research infrastructure conceived as an Accelerator Driven System (ADS).
It consists of a 600 MeV proton linear accelerator (linac) which drives a lead-bismuth cooled sub-critical reactor.
According to the MYRRHA phased implementation plan, a first facility called MINERVA will be constructed at SCK•CEN in Mol. MINERVA includes the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a unique infrastructure composed of a 100 MeV proton linac coupled to:
- an ISOL target station, for fundamental research and for the production of medical radioisotopes
- as well as to a target station for fusion material research.
In the framework of this project, the Institute for Advanced Nuclear Systems (ANS), is seeking an experienced manager to take the lead of the expertise group ACcelerator Project (ACP).
As Head of the ACP group, you will have, among others, the following responsibilities:
•lead and manage a team consisting of 2 units: Accelerator Design & Testing (ADT) and Proton Target Research (PTR);
•coordinate the R&D activities among others in the domains of linear accelerator and Isotope Separation On-Line (ISOL) techniques towards the high level objectives of the MYRRHA project;
•ensure the compliance of the activities with the functional and technical requirements within the planning defined by the Chief Operating Officer who is responsible for design and construction of the MINERVA facility;
•maintain an overview of the operational budget and expenses, and ensure that these are in line with the MYRRHA business plan;
•react adequately on possible deviation related to the operational planning, budget and HR situation;
•report to the management on all matters related to the technical and organizational situation of the activities within the ACP group;
•motivate team members and develop strategies to promote team member adherence to performance goals;
•identify areas for new training or skill checks;
•optimise and monitor closely all key operational processes within the group;
•generate and share comprehensive reports about team performance, mission-related objectives, and deadlines.
•Master’s degree in Engineering (MSc., graduate engineer) or a PhD in Physical Sciences;
•proven experience in the management of projects with high technological content in an international context with a large number of internal and external stakeholders;
•strong professional background in an R&D environment (in industry or in research centre);
•knowledge of accelerator related technologies and/or ISOL-systems is an advantage;
•ability to have a global view and establish clear short-term and mid-term objectives;
•pragmatic, dynamic, resistant to stress, without losing focus on the strategic goals;
•positive “can do” attitude, able to show commitment and to inspire others;
•good interpersonal, communication and people management skills;
•excellent oral and written skills in English. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an advantage;
• willingness to regularly commute between Mol and Louvain-la-Neuve and to travel internationally (short trips).
