Laboratory for gross alpha and beta counting
The laboratory for gross alpha and beta counting is responsible for the preparation, the measurement, data collection and calculation and the reporting of the final results to the customers of all samples subject to gross alpha or beta measurement (various water samples, airborne dust, etc.).
This method allows a fast indication of a possible radioactive contamination, because only minimal pre-treatment is necessary. A separation of the different radio-elements is not necessary.
The equipment consists of a dedicated laboratory for sample pretreatment and a dedicated counting room holding an array of ZnS-counters (gross alpha counting) and three proportional counters (gross alpha and gross beta counting).
