High neutron flux irradiation
The BR2 reactor of the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre at Mol became critical in 1961 and got to full power in 1963.
This material testing reactor is fully operational and operates within the framework of international programmes on structural materials and nuclear fuel qualification for nuclear fission.
It produces medical and industrial radioisotopes and neutron transmutation doped silicon.
It is also used for training and education purposes.
