MYRRHA supported by the government

On March 4th, Prime Minister Yves Leterme held a press conference at SCK•CEN to announce that the Belgian government gives its go ahead for the MYRRHA project. The government will support 40 % (M€ 384) of the total budget (M€ 960).

The first five years (2010-2014) the contribution amounts to M€ 60 to achieve what is called the Front End Engineering Design (FEED). This includes following actions:

1. To complete the needed support R&D to alleviate the last technical hurdles.

2. To make the necessary studies to secure the licensing of MYRRHA among others by addressing:

  • The Preliminary Safety Assessment Report (PSAR);
  • The Preliminary Dismantling Plan (PDP);
  • The Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR).

3. To establish the international consortium that would bring the remaining 60 % of the project budget.

That same day SCK•CEN also inaugurated GUINEVERE, a zero power mock up of MYRRHA, in the presence of Federal Minister of Climate and Energy Paul Magnette and Federal Minister of Science Policy Sabine Laruelle.

More information on the inauguration of GUINEVERE and the MYRRHA go ahead:
