3rd strategic energy forum

Dec 16, 2008

Brussels

Scope

Finally at last (!), policy makers around the world have come to realize that a sound energy provision will be crucial for the future well-being of our global society, from the modern economies, over the emerging countries to the less well developed regions of this globe. Even stronger, energy is at the top list of challenges and priorities for the 21st century, simply because a good energy provision is a necessary condition for other very important items like “water”, “food”, “environment”, “poverty”, “terrorism & war”, “disease”, “education”, “democracy” and “population”: in case of insufficient energy, all the other issues would face very much larger challenges than is already the case today.

In this Strategic Energy Forum, the current energy situation, with its challenges, is analyzed and interpreted, and possible short term solutions are suggested and the longer term solutions are reflected upon. Starting from an energy world market perspective, the European scene is focused on next, after which we converge and translate this for the Belgian situation.

By honouring this Forum with his presence, H.M. the King underlines the importance of the energy issue.
