Ethical charter

In 2009 SCK•CEN held a series of internal discussions, open to all employees, about what would need to be the character and content of an ethical charter for a research institute such as SCK•CEN. These discussions resulted in a revision of the original ethical charter and finaly in this document, endorsed by all the employees of the institute.

The charter does not only contain traditional considerations on responsible and collegial behaviour among the members of the personnel and on transparency towards the outside world, but also reflections on what it implies for a research institute and its individual members to deal with a risk-inherent technology of which diverging perceptions and opinions exist in society.

The charter is presented here:

The view of SCK•CEN is that this charter is not only an internal working instrument but also a living text, subject to continuous reflection and discussion, also with the outside world. We therefore welcome all feedback with great interest.
