The BR1 reactor became critical for the first time on May 11th, 1956. On May 11th of this year BR1 is the oldest research reactor for non-military applications that is still in operation in the world.

Thanks to its original concept, BR1 is, after 50 years of continuous work, still a unique instrument for applied and fundamental research. For this reason, we must be grateful to our pioneers.
